Hi! I'm Toni Fox.

I am a yoga teacher who helps people to find balance and move more mindfully through life.

My Yoga Story

I first tried yoga when I was in high school. I was looking to get some extra credit in her physical education class, and thought yoga would be get me some easy credits. It wasn’t what I expected, and it turned out to be such a good thing. I remember feeling so relaxed and at ease after any yoga session, even when I didn’t feel or know I was not relaxed before the class.

For the next 15 years I would come back to yoga videos off and on, never sustaining a consistent practice, but enjoying the gentle playfulness I felt and the unexpected calm that lingered after each session. It was not until a particularly challenging time dealing with and recovering from post-infectious IBS that I began to maintain a consistent practice.

Since then, yoga has helped me while dealing with chronic pain, migraines, and as a way to increase my activity level after a long recovery. Yoga has also helped me to accept and appreciate the things that I am able to do, and has become a training ground where I can practice being patience with my body, and my mind. I believe yoga provides many important lessons for anyone recovering from or dealing with any illness or injury, as well as those just dealing with every day challenges.

Work with me

I incorporate a mindfulness practice into all of my classes, encouraging students to recognize, without judgment, where they are at in that moment. This could be done by recognizing sensations of breath in the body, noticing the body and where it is connected to the ground, or by observing the flow of the thoughts through the mind. I am an encouraging and supportive teacher who wants to see you smile and maybe even laugh. Learning and growth play an important role in my life, so if you attend one of my classes or work with me one-on-one, don’t be surprised if you walk away with homework (optional, of course).

2. I really enjoy television shows with a great story and rich characters, but also really enjoy comedies. I would describe most of my favorite shows as smart and slightly irreverent. I do re-watch favorite shows too! Some of my favorites are The X-Files, Rubicon, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and Grace and Frankie.

4. I really enjoy musicals. When I was younger I used to pretend my life was a musical and would spontaneously make up songs about things that were going on. While I don’t pretend my life is a musical anymore, I do still make up and sing random songs at home.

5. I worked in a cruise ship casino for 6 months. It was a 7 day cruise in the Caribbean, and each week we would visit the same 5 islands again and again. Even though I worked 6 or 7 days each week, it felt a bit like a mini vacation every time the ship docked at one of the islands.

7. The first time I took a group yoga class was in 2015 right before I applied for my first yoga teacher training. Before that I only used videos, or made my own sequences at home. Doing yoga at home on my own was amazing for me, but something different happened when I started taking group classes. I highly recommend everyone find the mix of each (at home and in person) that works for them, knowing that what works now might change over time.

8. I am a lifelong learner. It’s not all about books for me though. I also love experience as a way to learn too. Some of the biggest life lessons I’ve learned were not found in books, but came from my own curiosity and my own bravery to experiment and try new things.
